About Us

Goulais Fire & Rescue Volunteers (G.F.R.V.) was founded back in 1981 to serve the needs of the Goulais River community and surrounding areas.   Goulais River is located on the Trans Canada Highway 17 about 25 Kilometers northwest of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

G.F.R.V. is now contracted annually by the Local Services Board of Goulais and District to provide fire protection services to their coverage area.  The geographical area protected are the entire townships of Fenwick, Haviland, Kars, Ley, Pennefather and Van Koughnet and the portion of Dennis township lying north of Goulais Bay known as Goulais Point.

This contract provides G.F.R.V. with the funding needed to maintain the operations for each year.  G.F.R.V. also contracts fire protection services to the Goulais Bay Indian Reserve number 15A.  Goulais Fire & Rescue is a registered charity and sells break open tickets at the Goulais River General Store.  Major capital expenditures are funded through our fundraising efforts and other contract agreements with the Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of Natural Resources.
